Parent Effectiveness Training

Listen So Kids Will Talk to You
Welcome to our Parent Effectiveness Training (PET) course, a transformative program designed to enhance the parent-child relationship and foster a supportive, communicative family environment. This introduction will give you an overview of PET’s origins, its objectives, the skills you will learn, and the course delivery format.

About Parent Effectiveness Training

Parent Effectiveness Training (PET) was pioneered by Dr. Thomas Gordon in the 1960s, a licensed psychologist and three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee. Dr. Gordon introduced PET in response to the traditional authoritarian parenting model, which he believed did not address the real needs of children and parents. The training is grounded in the belief that children behave best when they feel genuinely loved and respected. Over the years, PET has gained international acclaim and has been taught in over 50 countries, helping countless families to establish peaceful and fulfilling relationships.

Course Goals

The primary goal of PET is to equip parents with effective communication skills that promote mutual respect and understanding within the family. The training aims to:
  1. Reduce family conflict and increase cooperation through effective communication.
  2. Encourage children to become self-reliant and self-disciplined.
  3. Help parents to respectfully influence their children’s behavior without the need for punishment.
  4. Strengthen the parent-child bond by fostering an environment of empathy and open dialogue.

Skills Learned

Throughout the PET course, you will master several vital skills:
  • Active Listening: Learn to understand your child’s feelings and perspectives, which is crucial for resolving conflicts and building a closer relationship.
  • I-Messages: A powerful communication tool that expresses your feelings without criticizing or blaming, which helps in addressing sensitive issues without sparking defensiveness.
  • Conflict Resolution: Techniques to solve problems so that both the needs of the parent and the child are met.
  • No-Lose Method: This method ensures that both parties come out winners in a conflict by finding a mutually satisfactory solution.

Course Delivery

Our PET course is designed to be flexible and accessible. It is offered in various formats to accommodate different learning preferences:
  • In-Person Workshops: Conducted by certified PET instructors, these workshops provide interactive, hands-on learning experiences.
  • Live Online Sessions: These sessions are led by experienced instructors and offer real-time interaction in a virtual setting, allowing for immediate feedback and support.

Each format includes comprehensive materials, practical exercises, and real-life scenarios to ensure that you not only learn the techniques but are also able to apply them effectively in daily interactions with your children.

By choosing to participate in Parent Effectiveness Training, you are taking a significant step towards creating a loving and respectful family environment where everyone’s needs are heard and valued. Join us on this journey to become the most effective parent you can be.
